You may have noticed that there are a lot more deer in the Side Lake and surrounding areas in the past couple of years. Due to the last two mild winters in Northern Minnesota, our deer population has exploded! As we have done in the past, the Township has asked the DNR to allow a bow only hunt in 2026.
In the meantime, to help reduce the number of deer in our area and on the roadways, we ask local residents to not feed the deer this winter. Your cooperation is needed! For the safety of those in our community and for the health of the herds, please help us by refraining from feeding or using deer attractants. Many counties and townships already have deer feeding and attractant bans in place to help prevent the spread of disease within the deer populations.
